The pulp left after oil is rendered from the kernel is formed into "palm kernel cake", used either as high-protein feed for dairy cattle

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

Palm oil was, and remains, a key ingredient in West African cuisine, including the simple dish of boiled yam, palm oil and Kanwa salt, and Banga soup. Throughout West Africa, palm oil was also used in soap making; today Yoruba black Dudu-Osun soap is a trademark

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Palm kernel oil has a wide range of applications in industry. For example, it is used in oleochemistry to obtain oleochemical intermediary products. It helps in obtaining lauric acid, which then serves as a basic material for various surfactants (for example, sodium lauryl sulfate and sorbitan monolaurate).

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

There are three bio-wastes in palm oil mill: empty bunches; fiber; palm kernel shell. All these three materials can be used as fuel material. The empty bunches, fiber and kernel can be recycled as fertilizer too. Plam kernel cake can be used as animal feed.

Working on the project can be challenging, but there are skilled on it because of the consistency of were they started, from the main palm fruit, undergoing many process to finally land on the kernal with the process of removing the shell, making use of the palm Karnel inside to form oil, despite all the products are useful from stage one to the finishing stage.

Therefore, it is wise to include palm kernel oil in your daily diet. It will keep your skin healthy and youthful.

Research and development work in many disciplines - biochemistry, chemical and mechanical engineering - and the establishment of plantations, which provided the opportunity for large-scale fully mechanised processing, resulted in the evolution of a sequence of processing steps designed to extract, from a harvested oil palm bunch, a high yield of a product of acceptable quality for the international edible oil trade. The oil winning process, in summary, involves the reception of fresh fruit bunches from the plantations, sterilizing and threshing of the bunches to free the palm fruit, mashing the fruit and pressing out the crude palm oil. The crude oil is further treated to purify and dry it for storage and export.

The oil doesn’t get oxidised under high cooking temperatures and during the course of storage. This makes it a better choice compared to vegetable oil. The oil can be used for commercial cooking, such as French fries and potato chips.
