Describe your project or startup in a few words
Aire Tissues is an idea to create tissues out of agricultural waste.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
10 million tonnes of food go to waste every year in South Africa ,and 50% comes from agricultural waste and out of that Fruits,Vegetables and Cereal account for 70% of the wastage and loss primarily throughout the food supply chain.Reducing food waste is a fundamental strategy needed to improve food security. Therefore, Aire Tissues seeks to contribute to Zero waste initiative by producing tissue paper out of Wheat Pulp. Cereal takes 26% of the food wasted in South Africa,Fruit & Veg taking 44%. Wheat pulp is one of the examples of agricultural waste that can be used for new products such as tissue paper.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
1. Food Waste: The waste is a contrast to the millions of South Africans that are going hungry 2. Water and Electricity : Research says the energy wasted every year in SA for producing food that is not eaten is estimated enough to power the city of Johannesburg for roughly 16 weeks and wasted water would fill over 600 000 olympic swimming pools, a massive waste for SA. 3. Unemployment Rate : It is up to each one of us to contribute to the issues of our country and Aire Tissues given a chance can create job opportunities especially for young people.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
1. Support Hygiene by preventing the spread of dirt, germs, bacteria and diseases 2. Cost-effective, making it more accessible to target beneficiaries 3. Achieve access to Sanitation. Aire tissues will contribute 10% of profits made towards building toilets for rural schools that have no access to good sanitation
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
