Describe your project or startup in a few words
South Africans love meat, but health concerns rise. The demand for lean meat is increasing. Cabrito Cuts offers a tastier, healthier option: goat meat & derived products (burgers, sausages). Packed with protein & lower in fat, it's the future of meat.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
Meat provides vital nutrients, but excessive red meat consumption raises health concerns due to saturated fat and cholesterol. Lifestyle diseases, especially among Black populations, highlight the need for healthier dietary choices. Cabrito Cuts offers lean goat meat and products to meet consumer demand for healthier options. Goat meat's nutritional benefits position it as a potential major protein source. We aim to disrupt the red meat market by promoting goat meat's health benefits and scaling up production. The human population is expected to grow to 9 billion by 2050. This huge increase in population is envisaged to further increase the already high demand for meat and other animal-derived products for human consumption. In order to be able to meet the increased demand, there is the need for sustainable & efficient meat & animal product production. This population-mediated increase in the demand of animal-derived protein for human consumption creates a huge potential for goat meat.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Cabrito Cuts is aiming to solve the problem of consumers wanting healthier meat options while still enjoying the taste and convenience of traditional red meat. Additionally, we seek to meet the growing demand for sustainable and efficient animal-derived protein sources amid a projected increase in the global population. Our focus: - Health concerns with red meat which is linked to increased risk of health problems due to its high saturated fat and cholesterol content. - Consumers are looking for tastier, leaner meat options that are readily available for household cooking. - Creation of goat meat products: The South African market is yet to experience or be able to purchase goat meat boerewors, burger patties etc. - Increase bilateral trade through exporting Chevon to other African, Asian and European countries - Through research development come up with innovate technological ways to strengthen and grow the agricultural sector in South Africa
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
1. Healthier Meat Option: Goat meat is naturally leaner and lower in saturated fat compared to red meat, addressing health concerns for consumers. 2. Nutritional Value: Highlighting the healthful chemical nutrient profile of goat meat, positioning it as a potential major protein source with significant nutritional benefits. 3. Market Disruption: Seeking to disrupt the red meat market by creating awareness of goat meat's benefits, scaling up production, and meeting the demand for sustainable and efficient animal-derived protein sources. 4. Convenience and Versatility: By producing goat meat products like burgers, sausages, and whole cuts, we will be able to make goat meat a convenient and familiar option for home cooking. 5.Sustainable Meat Source: Goat farming generally requires less land and resources compared to traditional red meat production. This can be an attractive benefit for environmentally conscious consumers.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
Primary Target Audience: Health-Conscious Consumers: This is the central group. They prioritize healthy eating and are actively looking for alternatives to red meat due to saturated fat and cholesterol concerns. They will be drawn to Cabrito Cuts' focus on lean, protein-rich goat meat. Secondary Target Audience: Busy Home Cooks: This group appreciates convenient and familiar meal options. Our offers of pre-prepared goat meat products (burgers, sausages) that are easy to incorporate into everyday cooking, making goat meat a more accessible and attractive choice.
