01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
LukuChap addresses the challenges of manual electric token insertion and the absence of usage analytics in households. Our solution includes a smart electric meter that automates token insertion and distributes bills among up to 4 users per meter. It offers digital monitoring, usage analytics, and automatic bill payments with notifications. This system allows users to make data-driven decisions about their energy consumption. Our market includes 5.7 million urban households in Tanzania, with a significant portion still lacking efficient electric management systems. LukuChap's competitive advantages include real-time monitoring, automatic notifications, seamless bill payments, and the ability to project electric usage demand. We have developed and tested our MVP, engaged early adopters, and launched a pre-order campaign.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem LukuChap aims to solve is the inefficiency and inconvenience in managing household electricity usage and payments. Many households face issues with manual electric token insertion, manual distribution of electric bills, and the lack of usage analytics. This often results in time-consuming processes, inaccurate billing, and poor energy management. Additionally, shared housing situations complicate bill distribution among tenants. By automating token insertion, providing digital monitoring and analytics, and enabling seamless bill payments with real-time notifications, LukuChap simplifies electric bill management, ensures fair and accurate billing, and empowers users to make informed decisions about their energy consumption.

11.05 Are you initiating actions within your community to promote the role of female entrepreneurs?
Yes, I am actively promoting the role of female entrepreneurs through a collaborative effort with UNICEF Tanzania, TCRA, and the University of Dar es Salaam College of ICT. Over the course of three years, I have volunteered to train over 1200 secondary girls in Human-Centered Design (HCD), innovation, and entrepreneurship. This initiative aims to empower young women with essential skills and knowledge to pursue entrepreneurial ventures and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the economy. Through structured workshops, mentorship programs, and practical training sessions, I provide hands-on experience in developing innovative solutions and business acumen. By collaborating with respected organizations like UNICEF and academic institutions, I foster a supportive environment that encourages female participation and leadership in technology and entrepreneurship sectors. This initiative is not only equipping young women with technical skills but also promoting gender equality.
