Our main aim is to incorporate sustainability in all our engagements and services we provide. We want to enhance the knowledge and skills of the society and bring awareness through capacity building programs and upbringing the skills of the youth.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

At SCAS, we as our name, Specialized in diversified Professional Services. Our intentions are to bring the skills and professional development of the youth. Our main services are as follows: - Management Consulting - Capacity Building - Sustainability Advisory - Research & Development - Accounting & Audit - IT Consulting We have successfully completed several projects, let us mention some of them, - We have provided Accounting ERP training to 81 students at the Zanzibar University for student's skills development with the practical experience. - We have Implemented ERP to our client, and provided training to their employees - We have successfully provided Business Process Improvement Services to our clients, restructured their entire hierarchy and set Key Result Areas (KRAs) for each individual in the hierarchy, etc. We would like to expand our portfolio of services by having an institute such that we can benefit the society by providing youth with the necessary skills.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

As the organization is growing, our capacity building and training & professional skills development division requires expansion, also relevant resources to make a proper institute.

The main benefits of getting services from us summarized as follows: - We would like to grow organizations with appropriate training to their personnel with capacity building programs align to their strategy, as well to incorporate sustainability in the engagements. - We would also like to provide awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals, set by the United Nations By having this awareness at the individual level and at the organizational level, would benefit the larger community.

Our target beneficiaries as follow: - Youth - Students at the universities - Professionals at all level - Government Employees - Government Institutes and the organizations - Private Limited Companies - Non-Governmental Organizations - Etc

By providing awareness to the community, corporates, government institutes, privates companies, people at individual level and organizations would tend to contribute by establishing their Corporate Social Responsibility and would initiate some charitable and sustainable efforts to have zero hunger into communities surrounding by them. For e.g. In Zanzibar, there are lot of hotels, the initiatives e.g. providing jobs to some percentage of the surrounding community, would help to reduce unemployment, would have start earning for them, and definitely society would move towards zero hunger.

Mental health is also one of the problems of recent times, we would like to consult individuals and institutes, organizations, to take care of their employees, by providing discussion on how to improve physical and mental health, and overall well-being. As you know that employees are the assets of the companies, they must be properly cared, by providing and monetary contributing to the health programs.

We have conducted a training session at the Zanzibar University, where the candidates were 2/3 girls. We would like to support the gender equality by providing equal opportunities, one of our partners in the areas of capacity building, she is PHD doctor, we are collaborating together to deliver best to the society.

In our Sustainability Advisory section, we are discussing the waste to energy option, such that the municipal instead of dumping the waste, can generate energy and byproduct, i.e. fertilizers, etc. Secondly, In Zanzibar, the sewerage systems, currently dumping all the sewerage into the ocean at different locations, which is affecting the marine ecosystem. Recently, Zanzibar Municipal Corporation has initiated some feasibility study in some projects to have proper sanitation and treatment plants before throwing it directly, into the oceans. Our organization woud like to contribute on those projects by providing sustainability advisory services.

We would like to share our experience by visiting City Municipal Office of Zanzibar, we have introduced our services, and suggested to have MOU with them to promote sustainability to all of their municipal councils. Currently, some of the streetlights are on solar panels. Many of the urban roads doesn't have the streetlights at all. As the tourism is growing, they are using the current infrastructure. There must be balance in contribution to the infrastructure as well. Secondly, I would like to say that many tourist vehicles are speeding, there is no check and balance on the speed limits defined. We would like to recommend and engage the appropriate government authority to establish a proper system, were over speeding penalized and to stop the vulnerability of the over speeding to the passages passing from the small villages, and schools. By this initiative and the establishment of the proper infrastructure with the use of Artificial Intelligence, these issues would overcome.

We are using responsible consumption by knowing that the more use of electricity can have more carbon emissions (electricity generated through the use of fosil fuels) i.e. not all the electricity is produced through renewable energies by the source. We are reducing our electricity usage by the policy to turn off, unnecessary lights, cooling, etc. while not in use. We also emphasize the use of renewable energy.

Previously, when we were taking about the climate change, many people were taking it lightly. Nowadays, many people listening to us and sharing their experiences by the adverse effect of the climate change. Sustainability consists of three things, environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and social sustainability, We are bringing awareness to the society by adding the concept of sustainability and its education to all our engagements.

Some of the opportunities available are to invest in agriculture sector, techno hub, eco tourism, and the blue economy. As the blue economy growing, it will have effect on the life below water, marine reserves, corals. Because of the exploitation of natural resources, like the tourist do water activities, sometimes damage the corals, also some fishing, and the anchors of the boat destroy the corals, etc. We would like to provide sustainability advisory services to the Ministry of Blue Economy, such that they can take right decisions, with the sustainable solutions to tackle all of the above challenges.

Currently, land erosions are seen due to rise in sea levels in Zanzibar, due to climate change. At the movement, we do not have expertise to contribute in this sector. In future, we are optimistic to have sophisticated expertise to contribute in this sector, especially the areas where high impact of it.

As we are educators, providing necessary trainings and advisory services, would promote peace and justice to make the institutions and organizations to have better system in place to exhibit the core principles and cultures of the society, peace is the harmony of well-educated and ethical practicing societies.

I would like to share, our very first engagement was with Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), to have a strategic partnership with them to emphasize the concept of sustainability to all the members of ZIPA. Currently, they do not have mandatory requirement for the ESG reporting. We have explained them the concept of sustainability. We have provided presentation to the ZIPA management with the offer to have MOU with them on the key 5 points. 1. Seminars and workshops related to Sustainability. 2. Support in investment policy implementation and improvement. 3. Promote Sustainable Development Goals 4. Promote ZIPA to local investors 5. Support in ESG reporting implementation.

06.08 Justification for my startup

Our idea is quite unique, very few companies providing management consultancy services. Some of our services, i.e. Business Process Improvment. Our capacity building programs to help organizations to grow not limited to specific topics, but it wider perspective, i.e. Internal Auditing, Lean, six sigma principles, Sustainable Development Goals, etc.

06.09 Competitive Analysis

Business Consultants, currently the business consultants main focus on financial audits, tax audits. They are not providing sustainability advisory services and educational services. Our aim is to bring sustainability in all of our engagements. Our main focus is on the capacity building and training & professionals skills development with the aim to bring sustainaable development. Many people arround Zanzibar are still unaware about the concept of sustainability. We would like to enhance the awarenes of the communites and citizens.

11.05 Are you initiating actions within your community to promote the role of female entrepreneurs?

Yes, we promote the female entrepreneurs, I have taken initiative from my home, my wife currently teaching at the primary school of the Cambridge Syllabus. She is earning small amount of money per month. I try to motive her to initiate a startup by investing small amounts. She also has a plan to have her own academy. I am passionate to support her in her ambitions. Also, many females, require proper guidance on how to start career / entrepreneurship.
