The aim of AfyaImara Project ; Is leveraging Technology and the use of AI to bridge the gap in HIV identification and Prevention in Tanzania. The Goal is to achieve the 95-95-95, by which in 2030 , 95% of people living with HIV know their Status, 95% of those diagnosed receive sustained antiretroviral therapy and 95% of those on ART achieve Viral Suppression .
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
With the urge to change and improve the Healthcare of People in Tanzania, I still see there is the big gap when it comes to HIV identification and Prevention. Despite significant progress in HIV treatment and management, Tanzania faces a persistent challenge in the identification and prevention of HIV. The Tanzania HIV Impact Survey (THIS 2022-2023) reveals that while 82.7 percent of people living with HIV are aware of their status, a notable 12.3 percent remain undiagnosed. This gap hinders the country’s efforts to achieve the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, which aim for 95 percent of people living with HIV to know their status, 95 percent of those diagnosed to receive antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 95 percent of those on ART to achieve viral suppression. On 1st June 2024 TACAIDS reveals that HIV prevalence has doubled among girls aged 15-24 years in Tanzania . "The interaction between young girls and older men is listed as the main reason and the use of mobile phone.

1.Direct Economic Burden The direct economic burden of disease is substantial, especially for individuals and families in low-income settings. Medical expenses can be crippling, leading to impoverishment. Eg in Tanzania , healthcare costs are predominantly out-of-pocket expenses. When a family member falls ill, the immediate need for medical treatment often necessitates spending a significant portion of household income on healthcare services, medications, and travel to medical facilities. This expenditure can deplete savings and push families into debt, particularly when health insurance is inadequate or nonexistent. 2. Impact on Productivity Disease significantly impacts productivity, both at the individual and macroeconomic levels. For individuals, illness can lead to absenteeism, reduced work hours, and diminished performance. 3. Strain on Healthcare Systems Diseases place a significant strain on healthcare systems, particularly in resource-limited settings.
