01.01 Describe your project in more detail
EcoBrick will be upcycling waste textiles into durable, versatile decorative bricks for interior decor. This process will weave together discarded clothes and fabrics, reducing waste in landfills and oceans. The Bricks can be molded into various shapes, sizes, and colors, offering sign possibilities. The process begins with collecting discarded and waste clothes or fabrics, sorting them into their colours and cleaning them. The fabrics will then be shredded and mixed with a non-toxic adhesive, creating a unique composite material. The mixture will be compressed into moulds, forming bricks of different shapes. EcoBricks are durable, water-resistant, and easy to install. They conserve resources, promote eco-friendly design, and offer a unique aesthetic. Suitable for various interior applications, EcoBricks support eco-conscious design thinking, inspiring sustainability in the industry. By Upcycling waste textiles, we aim to redefine interior spaces and promote a circular economy now
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem EcoBrick seeks to solve is the vast amount of waste textiles generated annually. Discarded fabrics and textiles have a significant impact on the environment, including: 1. Textile waste in landfills: Fabrics can take hundreds of years to decompose, contributing to landfill growth and methane production. 2. Microplastics: Synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, and acrylic break down into microplastics, contaminating soil, waterways, and oceans. 3. Water pollution: Discarded textiles and and fabrics at dumbsides Close to water bodies can contaminate the water. 4. Greenhouse gas emissions: Production, transportation, and disposal of textiles contribute to carbon emissions. 5. Waste management issues: Improper disposal of textiles leads to litter, clogs drains, and harms wildlife. This project will be tackling these issues by upcycling waste textiles into durable, versatile decorative bricks, promoting a circular economy, reducing waste and thereby conserving resources

EcoBrick offers a sustainable and eco-friendly solution by upcycling waste textiles, reducing landfill waste and conserving natural resources, while also providing a versatile and durable material that can be used for various interior design applications, including walls, floors, and decorative features. Additionally, EcoBrick offers a unique aesthetic, boasting a distinctive texture, color, and pattern combination that adds character to any space, and is cost-effective. It also will be reducing waste disposal costs and providing an affordable alternative to traditional building materials. Furthermore, EcoBrick supports a circular economy, encouraging reuse and recycling, reducing the demand for new resources, and is water-resistant, making it suitable for high-moisture areas like bathrooms and kitchens, and easy to install, reducing labor costs

EcoBrick's targeted beneficiaries are environmentally conscious individuals and organizations seeking sustainable design solutions, including interior designers, home owners and builders, commercial property developers, hospitality and healthcare industries, Educational institutions, government agencies, etc. Our project serves those committed to reducing their ecological footprint, promoting sustainable design thinking, and redefining interior spaces with eco-friendly materials.

She brings a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of scientific principles to the team. Partner 2 (Male): Charles Apeyusi Medilab Expert Charles is a final-year Medical Laboratory Science student at the University of Development Studies (UDS), with a strong foundation in medical research and laboratory techniques. He brings a wealth of knowledge in medical laboratory science to the team. Partner 3 (Female): Zakaria Najlau Creative Undergraduate Gloria holds an undergraduate degree in a creative field and brings a unique perspective to the team. Her skills include creative writing, graphic design, and social media management. She's enthusiastic about sustainable design and eager to apply her skills to a real-world project.

Moreover, the project will help in reducing waste and promoting resource efficiency in agriculture, creating employment opportunities, increasing income for farmers and rural communities and in essence, enhancing food security. This will empower smallholder farmers, particularly women, to access sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices, and promote sustainable agriculture that prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and efficient water use.
