Describe your project or startup in a few words
THOON's BERMUDA TRIANGLE: A sustainable initiative integrating waste recycling, eco-friendly clothing production, and fish farming using maggot-based feed. It creates jobs, reduces waste, and provides affordable solutions for Ghana and Africa.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
THOON's BERMUDA TRIANGLE is an innovative, sustainable project with three interconnected pillars: garbage collection, recycling, and storage; clothing production from recycled materials; and fish farming using maggot-based feed derived from decomposed food waste. This closed-loop system reduces landfill waste, promotes recycling, and provides affordable clothing and sustainable fish feed. By creating jobs and generating revenue from waste management, recycled clothing sales, and fish farming, the project addresses multiple SDGs, including responsible consumption, economic growth, and progressively zero hunger. It uses environmental friendly techniques like the AkoFresh food storage in storing fish, empowers local communities, fosters gender equality through inclusive employment and training, and offers a scalable model for broader impact across Ghana and Africa, tackling environmental and economic challenges while promoting sustainability.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The primary problem this aims to solve is the environmental and economic challenges stemming from ineffective waste management in Ghana and Africa. Poor waste collection and recycling result in overflowing landfills, pollution, and missed economic opportunities. Additionally, inflation has made essential goods like clothing and food increasingly unaffordable for many communities. Our project addresses these issues by implementing a closed-loop system: collecting and recycling waste into new products, and using decomposed food waste to produce sustainable fish feed. This approach not only reduces environmental pollution and waste but also provides affordable clothing, enhances food security, and generates jobs. By converting waste into valuable resources, this project promotes sustainable development, reduces poverty, and supports economic growth, tackling the intertwined issues of waste management, unemployment, and inflation.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
Environmental Sustainability: By collecting, recycling, and repurposing waste materials, the project significantly reduces landfill waste and pollution. This promotes a cleaner, healthier environment and supports sustainable consumption and production patterns. Economic Growth and Job Creation: The project creates numerous jobs across its three pillars—waste management, clothing production, and fish farming. This boosts local economies, provides stable income opportunities, and fosters entrepreneurship in Ghana and Africa. Affordable and Accessible Goods: Producing clothing from recycled materials and fish feed from decomposed food waste helps combat inflation and makes essential goods more affordable for local communities. This improves living standards and ensures better access to necessary resources. THOON BERMUDA TRIANGLE addresses environmental, economic, and social challenges, contributing to sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for many people.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
This project primarily targets the following beneficiaries: Communities in Ghana and Africa: Residents who will benefit from cleaner environments due to effective waste management and recycling, improving their overall quality of life. Low-Income Families and Individuals: People affected by inflation who will gain access to affordable clothing made from recycled materials and cost-effective fish feed, enhancing their living standards and food security. Unemployed and Underemployed Individuals: By creating jobs in waste collection, recycling, clothing production, and fish farming, the project provides stable employment opportunities, fostering economic growth and reducing poverty. Women and Youth: Through inclusive employment practices and targeted training programs, the project aims to empower women and youth, promoting gender equality and providing skills that can lead to further economic opportunities. Overall, the project serves to uplift disadvantage and vulnerable populations.
