Describe your project or startup in a few words
Hilpaul Health Private Limited is a Radiology startup delivering quality and affordable radiological services through its Radiology Clinics. It also provides teleradiology as a service to remote radiology clinics around Zimbabwe.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Hilpaul Health Private Limited is a Radiology startup company delivering quality and affordable radiological services through its Radiology Clinics In Harare, Zimbabwe. The company has two clinics up and running, with a combined yearly patient throughput of 7 500 patients. Through its clinics, the company offers ultrasound scan and xrays services to the middle and low income segments of the Zimbabwean public. Hilpaul Health Private Limited developed the first locally developed teleradiology software, which has been undergoing testing in the clinical environment, at three radiology clinics in Zimbabwe. The teleradiology software connects remote radiology clinics to the few radiologists in Harare, for remote medical image interpretation. Our teleradiology services are expected to fully go commercial in Zimbabwe in October 2024, with the grand vision of scaling up into the Southern African market by the second financial quarter of 2025.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
1. High Maternal mortality in Zimbabwe. According to the World Health organization, Zimbabwe has a maternal mortality rate of 357 maternal deaths for every one hundred thousand live births. This is a very high rate, only second to Malawi in Southern Africa, which has a maternal mortality rate of 377 maternal deaths for every one hundred thousand live births. UNICEF has recommended the use of ultrasound scan services to improve pregnancy outcomes, and that is where Hilpaul Health comes in with its Radiology Clinics. 2. Severe shortage of Radiologists. Zimbabwe has only 17 resident specialist Radiologists, serving a population of 16 million people. 16 of them are resident in Harare. This creates a serious challenge where medical images across the country have no specialist interpretation for accurate diagnosis. Consequently, Hilpaul Health Private Limited developed a teleradiology software, with the goal to link radiology clinics around Zimbabwe to radiologists in Harare via our system
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
1. The first major benefit of using our radiology clinics is that middle income and low income patients get to access quality specialist radiology services at affordable prices. Of greater importance, are the ultrasound services we offer to pregnant mothers. This will offer better pregnancy monitoring at affordable prices, for better outcomes. 2. The major benefits for using our teleradiology services is the fact that, remote hospitals and clinics which would not ordinarily get specialist radiologist services will now get access to a radiologist for image interpretation, as long as they have internet access. It is important to mention that of the 108 radiology centers in Zimbabwe, 80 have no radiologist to report on the medical images. These are the hospitals we envision to benefit greatly for our teleradiology services. 3. Using our teleradiology services will ensure timely and accurate disease diagnosis, and consequently great health outcomes for the users.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
1. Our radiology clinics aim to benefit pregnant mothers in the middle and low income segments of the population. Our radiology clinics aim pregnant mothers more because Zimbabwe has high Maternal mortality, which according to the World Health organization is 357 maternal deaths for every one hundred thousand live births. 2. Our Teleradiology services aim to benefit hospitals and radiology clinics/centers without resident specialist radiologists. Radiologists are specialist medical doctors who interpret medical images. Our teleradiology system will link hospitals without a radiologist to a radiologist in Harare or anywhere in the world. This happens as long as there is internet access to that hospital/radiology center.

Leveraging on technology and innovation, Hilpaul health private limited has developed teleradiology solutions to create remote access to scarce radiologists in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has 1 radiologist for every 900 000 people. The radiologists are all concentrated in the capital city, save for one who is based in Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe. By doing this, Hilpaul Health private limited is using innovation and technology to solve the scarcity of specialist health personnel in Zimbabwe.

Our teleradiology as a service offering is a new business model in Zimbabwe, where medical images are shared online for image interpretation by radiologists in other locations. No other company offers teleradiology as a service in Zimbabwe. There are Imaging companies in Harare who have in house teleradiology systems to service their several branches. However they do not offer it as a service. We are the first company to occupy the space of developing teleradiology solutions in the country, and also to offer them as a service.
