01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Zimbabwe Young Farmers is a company formed to assist Young Farmers build sustainable businesses within the agriculture value chain. We assist with technical training, access to markets, crop identification and access to finance. Our goal is to set up at least one sustainable agriculture business in every one of almost 2,000 wards in Zimbabwe.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Young people are failing to set up profitable, sustainable businesses that sustain their livelihoods. The further cause of this are further broken down a follows: Access to information and training Young Farmers are not aware what profitable crops to grow and where the markets are. Further, young farmers lack the technical training to grow the said crops. Access to capital Young farmers have no capital to fund their projects. Further they have no collateral to access finance from financial institutions. Access to markets Farmers are unable to sell their produce for one or more of the following reasons: They do not know where the buyers are They do not have the logistical capabilities to take produce from farm to consumers They do not meet the minimum quantity required to either move produce profitably, or secure contracts with buyers who require agriculture produce.

Access to information and training Farmers have access to the following information through our ward management teams: The list of profitable products to grow with ready off-takers Information about assistance from government and NGOs who provide assistance to farmers. Farmers can access training on: Technical aspects of growing various crops Business training on how to run their projects as proper sustainable businesses that includes Financial training Keeping books Human resources management Etc 2. Access to capital Based on our training and supervision, we can guarantee better performance to financial institutions on their loans to our members. 3. Access to markets The organization constantly looks out for offtakers looking to buy agriculture products and arranges contracts on behalf of it's members. The organization will arrange the youth into other value addition business that will consume agric produce and further add value in things like cooking oil manufacture

Targeted beneficiaries are all young people in Zimbabwe who wish to set up profitable agriculture businesses in Zimbabwe

Whilst individual aspects of the agriculture value chain management are available, ours ithe first that holistically covers financial, technical, government and legal, and many other aspects of creating an enabling environment for young farmers in Zimbabwe
