We are into the production and sales of pork meat and processes the meat into sausage, bacon, gammon, ham, skin into pork scratchings, feet into trotters, head into a meat jelly called head cheese (brawn), and live pigs.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

With our creative business model, we intend to start up a pig farm and crop farm, where we will rear these pigs to be sold wholesale or retail to consumers and other businesses. We also will include a farm where we will grow most of our pig feed and grow other food crops as well. On innovation, we intend to process some of the pig meat into assorted pork products like sausages, ham and pork chops. This will give customers a wide range of products to pick from. 01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

In Ghana, most pigs are sold alive to customers who have to go through the pain of killing it themselves. Because most of these merchants are uneducated in the handling of meat, as well as the unsanitary conditions in which these animals are slaughtered, the pork becomes contaminated. It's also difficult to find pork meat in our local grocery stores because there isn't a well-packaged pork product on the market. On the market, assorted pig products such as sausages, etc. are similarly difficult to distinguish.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).

In terms of social impacts, we intend to create employment for the youth and women in order to enable them to get a source of income. Since farming involves a lot of things, we will have to hire people with both skilled and unskilled labor for activities like feeding of the pigs, routine vaccination of the pigs, planting of crops etc. This will be an opportunity to help them learn the job and also gain money from it as employees. Our consumers will also be given the best of pork products which will lead to a healthier life. As per the United Nations SDG 12, which is Responsible Consumption and Production, we will ensure that we can provide consumers with an all-year-round protein rich product. and as we keep on rearing, the cycle gets completed; producing and consuming. Environmentally, we are looking at collecting biodegradable wastes in order to be able to grow our crops in the farms. We will focus on processing the pork meat to assorted products like sausages, etc as well as packaging it into various sizes that can fit every budget on the market. Also local sales outlets are set up at various local market places to make our product readily available. Our product will also be made available on our local cold stores for it to be easily available and accessible to everyone. Our target market are Pig farmers, Pig butchers, Wholesalers and retailers of meats, Abattoirs, meat processing companies, Food packaging companies, Local Market places, Shopping malls, Corporate institutions, Chop bars, restaurant and households.

He is a social entrepreneur, environmentalist and sustainable development professional with over 4 years’ experience in renewable energy research, technology and market development, business model development and climate change initiatives in Ghana and Africa.
