Describe your project or startup in a few words
For couples looking to have a safe and fun pregnancy, we use AI to help identified any pregnancy risk and prevent them. We help couples prepare adequately for pregnancy. Our aim is to make sure that no woman will go through difficulties during pregnancy.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
DeaRx Mom is a femtech company aimed at using AI to improve maternal health. It's major focus is preventing maternal mortality and morbidity. We aim to do this by designing a gamified AI mobile app and API that assesses maternal health risks and provides preventative health strategies to improve maternal outcomes. There are numerous preventable maternal complications, such as eclampsia, birth defects, hemorrhage, and infections, among others. Existing digital platforms that are solving maternal health problems (mortality and morbidity) focus on women during pregnancy, the period when intervention may be too aggressive or be too late for intervention Our startup aims to assist women in preparing for pregnancy by identifying potential complications and implementing preventative measures beforehand. Four friends, consisting of three women and one man, are collaborating on this project. We have been working together on various projects for approximately three years.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Annually, there are an estimated 208 million pregnancies worldwide. Between 8-15% of these result in complications that can adversely affect the health of both the mother and the baby. A staggering 46% of pregnancies globally are unintended, which can heighten the risks for both mother and child. Specifically, in Ghana from 2015 to 2019, there were on average 1,330,000 pregnancies each year, with 741,000 of these being unintended. Furthermore, about 13% of women harbor an extreme fear of pregnancy, known as tokophobia, leading them to delay or altogether avoid motherhood. Unintended pregnancies can have serious consequences, including complications or even maternal mortality, instilling a fear of pregnancy in couples. Maternal complications represent a significant issue in Ghana and across Africa. We hope to mitigate this problem.

There are few products focused on improving maternal health on the african markets. Most of these are made in the US and european countries. Most of these few products are focused on the mother during pregnancy. But we are making a gamified app that helps women prepare adequately, identifying and preventing risks, before pregnancy. This is an innovative way of solving maternal health problems
06.09 Competitive Analysis
Competitors include Flo app, pregbuddy, gracehealth and What to Expect. They are focused on mothers during pregnancy. We are using AI to help couples identify and prevent the complications earlier on. Aside that we hope to gamify the experience so that it is easy to go through the assessment and prevention process. We don't want our users to get bored using the app.
