Describe your project or startup in a few words
Instan-T offers premium instant tea (coffee, black, green, hibiscus) and uses leftover grounds to produce briquettes, merging the demand for convenient, healthy beverages with a zero-waste approach. This sustainable model supports eco-friendly innovation.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
The project focuses on producing high-quality instant coffee and tea products while simultaneously addressing waste management challenges. We utilize coffee and tea grounds generated during the manufacturing process to create briquettes, offering a sustainable solution to waste disposal. Our instant coffee and tea products are crafted using premium ingredients to ensure exceptional flavor and aroma, providing consumers with convenient and satisfying beverage options. In event of scale up, cogeneration can replace the briquette manufacture, providing even cleaner energy through electricity. By repurposing waste into valuable energy sources, we promote environmental sustainability and contribute to the circular economy. Through innovative production methods and a commitment to quality, we aim to meet the diverse needs of consumers while minimizing the environmental footprint.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Consumers seek convenient and healthy beverages, but traditional tea brewing can be time-consuming and generate waste. Conventional briquette production often relies on non-renewable resources. Instan-T offers a solution by creating premium instant tea products while utilizing leftover grounds for sustainable briquette production. This addresses the need for convenience, health, and environmental responsibility.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

Beyond the morning pick-me-up, coffee packs a surprising amount of nutritional goodness. It contains essential vitamins and minerals, and is loaded with antioxidants that can help fight chronic diseases. Studies suggest coffee may even improve cognitive function, boost your workout, and lower your risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's, and some cancers. By sourcing coffee beans and tea from local farmers and ensuring fair trade practices, the project can improve the economic conditions of these farmers. Better income allows them to invest in their health and well-being, as well as that of their families. By generating employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector, the project can provide stable incomes for workers, which enables them to access healthcare services, nutritious food, and other necessities that contribute to a healthy life.

The grounds from the coffee and tea can be converted into briquettes, which serve as a renewable energy source. This helps reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources like charcoal and wood, promoting sustainable energy use. By utilizing the grounds to make briquettes, the project reduces waste, turning a byproduct that would otherwise go to landfills into a valuable energy resource. This contributes to a more sustainable waste management system. Briquettes made from the grounds can be a cost-effective alternative to traditional fuels. They can be produced and sold at lower prices, making energy more affordable for low-income households and communities. Using briquettes as an alternative to wood for fuel can help decrease deforestation. This not only preserves forest ecosystems but also maintains the environmental balance and biodiversity, which are essential for sustainable development.

This project directly addresses SDG 11 by finding a productive use for grounds waste. Diverting this waste from landfills reduces methane emissions and conserves landfill space. By producing briquettes from the grounds, the project creates an alternative clean fuel source. This can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower air pollution in urban areas, contributing to a more sustainable city environment.

02.12.02 Responsible consumption and production - Justification
Traditional brewing methods often involve leftover grounds and incomplete extraction, leading to some wasted coffee and tea. Instant coffee and tea premixes offer a pre-measured portion, minimizing the chance of excess brewed coffee or tea being thrown away. The project creates a new product. The briquettes become a valuable fuel source. This can be especially beneficial in regions where access to firewood or conventional fuel is limited.

02.15.02 Life on land - Justification
By using grounds waste to create briquettes, the project reduces the need for firewood and charcoal, which are major drivers of deforestation. Preserving forests helps maintain biodiversity, protect wildlife habitats, and sustain the ecological balance. Converting the grounds into briquettes provides a sustainable solution for waste management. It prevents the accumulation of organic waste that can degrade land quality if improperly disposed of, such as by contributing to soil acidification or pollution. By decreasing deforestation and land degradation, the project helps preserve habitats for numerous plant and animal species, thereby supporting biodiversity. Forest ecosystems are critical for many species, and protecting these habitats is vital for preventing biodiversity loss. Sustainable use of grounds waste for briquette production can help combat desertification by reducing the overextraction of wood and preserving tree cover.
