Describe your project or startup in a few words
Greenworld Uganda project is a project aimed at conserving and restoring Uganda's climate and combating climate change. As Uganda gears up to producing it's first oil, there is need for afforestation to help in the carbon capture. We need to go green!!!!!
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
I am a fresh petroleum geoscience graduate whose worry as Uganda gears up for it's first oil is about sustainability and even a better environment through carbon capture. What comes into my mind is afforestation as forests can help in carbon capture. Kigezi sub region has got the most fertile highlands in Uganda but people still use these highlands to grow seasonal crops like Irish potatoes that are easily washed away by floods. Those who have planted trees have planted eucalyptus that is usually cut when young for wood fuel and charcoal. I am looking at starting a project if funded that shall enable me supply high valued tree species like pine since it is not cut young in most cases and this shall ensure enough afforestation that shall help in carbon capture assisted by the natural forests like Mabiira forest.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem I am trying to solve is climate change. At this rate of climate change, all environmentalists are shifting their minds against fossil fuels yet it's also not wise to just abandon such a resource from God and moreso so the fact that there is no enough alternative source of fuel for all energy needs, we have to look for ways of sustainability utilizing the fossil fuels and hence a need for us to think about Carbon capture. Kigezi is majorly occupied by local people most of whom cannot afford to buy high valued tree species but these people are so motivated and competitive and once a project of supplying them with trees comes up, I am sure they shall be cooperative in planting and taking care of such trees for the associated benefits. Pine trees are trees that take longer to mature but this would be an advantage to the environment and to the citizens in the end as such trees are not always tempered with for wood fuel and charcoal. Imagine if Kigezi went green!!!!!!!!!!!!!
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
Benefits and advantages of my project include the following 1. Employment: employment to the people involved in planting and caring for the project. 2.Justice to the environment: The project shall contribute to combating climate change and support rainfall formation. 3. Source of income: The project shall in the long run generate income to the people involved. 4. Serve as an example: this shall be an example to the local people and a motivation for them to participate in fighting climate change.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
1. Local people: This project shall target all local people as long as they have land on which to plant these trees. Farmers: Farmers shall greatly participate in this campaign for income generation and also ensure that they get rainfall from trees for food crops growth
01.05 When did you start working on your project?
2024-05-15
01.06 How many other partners are associated with your business venture?
1
01.07 Among the other partners, how many are female?
1
01.08 Please describe the profile of each of the other partners (skills, experience, etc.)
1.ATUHAIRE DOREEN: She is a female and a business graduate from Makerere university passionate about the environment and willing to see Uganda's oil and gas resources utilised effectively. She believes the way to go is making sure that there is tree planting on large scale and wetland conservation. 4.AKANTORANA WINNIE: She is a teacher by profession with a bachelor's degree from Makerere university. As one of the people from Kigezi area, she has enough knowledge about the fertile soils and is also informed of the climate change in Kigezi. She believes starting to produce oil before planting enough trees shall enhance climate crisis hence a need for action.

02.06.01 My project contributes to the Clean water and sanitation goal
7 - Strongly Agree
02.06.02 Clean water and sanitation - Justification
The project contributes to clean water as trees are important in rain formation and also forests serve as water catchment areas as well as contributing to sanitation via carbon capture.
02.07.01 My project contributes to the Affordable and clean energy goal
7 - Strongly Agree
02.07.02 Affordable and clean energy - Justification
Ugandans have for years been using wood fuel die to the fact that it is the readily available and due to bushes with low value shrubs only seen as a source of firewood. By supplying high valued trees like pines, these trees shall be preserved and people shall resort to clean energies like Solar energy and LPG.
02.08.01 My project contributes to the Decent work and economic growth
7 - Strongly Agree
02.08.02 Decent work and economic growth - Justification
These trees are to serve as a source of income and contribute to economic growth. People shall resort to planting trees other than doing indecent work.
02.09.01 My project contributes to the Industry innovation and infrastructure
