My project is about creating a center for children with disabilities/ special needs like those with neurodevelopmental conditions, where they will be able to access different services such as therapy, speech needs education, and vocational skills training

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

This project will help children with disabilities/ special needs, especially those with autism, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder etc, access services which are beneficial for their productivity and performance in different activities of their living. Therapy that will include; occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychological interventions, physiotherapy, community based rehabilitation and education like special needs education, and individualised education provided. Vocational skills, such as computer skills, music, art and crafts, backery and cookery will be provided by specialists in different areas. The project aims at integrating therapy into learning, to promote children functionality and performance besides their conditions or limitations. All services will be accessed basing on the individual needs of children with special needs and interventions will be guided by special assessments, and defined plans.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Parents of these children move from one place to another looking for these services, and in the process, this cost them a lot, with transport and increased cost of the services, since they are attained in isolation. The project will avail all these services which are beneficial to the children at once, at a reduced cost, accessible to all individuals and this will save parents and caretaker alot. Children will be saved from being taken advantage of by wrong people, and they will be able to access services directly from specialist. The problem of stigma will reduce greatly, since children will be trained different skills for productivity, functionality, and performance of different activities of daily living. The skills attain from the project by the children, will help them integrate in the communities, and also will enable them, get opportunities for performance. Problems faced by parents in managing these children will reduce greatly since they will be trained by specialists.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

Children with disabilities/ special needs will be able to acquire skills for performance They will attain a maximized level of independence in all areas of performance, since they will be trained different skills They will get an opportunity to be assessed in all areas by specialists, be given a genuine management plan, and their limitations managed in a multidisciplinary approach by specialists. They will be able to acquire skills in music with playing different instruments, computer, art and craft skills, cookery and backery skills. They will benefit from opportunities created by the project and those attained through different engagement with the public.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

The project will benefit all children with disabilities/ special needs especially those with neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD, ADHD, ADD, PDD, CD, Asperger's syndrome, learning disabilities, SPD, etc. All parents and caretakers of children with these conditions will benefit from the project. Experienced therapists such as Occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, Clinical psychologists, Physiotherapists, community based rehabilitators will benefit from the project since they will acquire Jobs. Experienced special needs teachers, and special needs care takers will benefit Skills trainers such as those with experience in computer skills, music, art and crafts skills, backery and cookery skills will benefit The Ugandan government will benefit from the project, because it will provide taxes

Yes, I always ask them to start something when ever they get an opportunity, and I do advocate for opportunities for them and fortunately, In my area of specialty, there are equal opportunities for both genders.
