Project: "Green Harvest Uganda" Objective: To establish a social enterprise that promotes sustainable agriculture practices, provides training and employment opportunities, and increases access to nutritious produce for low-income communities. Description: Green Harvest Uganda will establish a network of urban and rural farms, utilizing permaculture principles and hydroponics to grow a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. - The project will provide training and employment opportunities for smallholder farmers, youth, and women, focusing on sustainable agriculture practices, entrepreneurship, and business management. - The produce will be sold to local markets, restaurants, and supermarkets, with a focus on affordability and accessibility for low-income communities. - The project will also establish a community outreach program, providing education on nutrition, health, and sustainable living practices. Green Harvest Uganda is primarily addressing the following key challenges: 1. *Food insecurity*: Limited access to nutritious food, particularly in urban areas, leading to malnutrition and related health issues. 2. *Poverty among smallholder farmers*: Low yields, lack of market access, and limited income opportunities trap farmers in poverty. 3. *Sustainable agriculture practices*: Degradation of soil, water, and biodiversity due to unsustainable farming methods, threatening long-term agricultural productivity. 4. *Youth and women empowerment*: Limited opportunities for youth and women in agriculture, hindering their economic potential and contributing to inequality. 5. *Environmental degradation*: Deforestation, soil erosion, and pollution from unsustainable farming practices harm the environment and threaten future generations' well-being.
