Rural Rice Milling Project is designed to target rural rice producers in a lake zone areas in Tanzania specifically Misungwi district. A Rural rice Milling

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

For decades Rice producers in rural areas face a challenge to access good facility to store, process and market their produces. This have come in to attention that a small milling industry should be established so that to add value in Rice produce. Selling unprocessed rice have been yielding loss to farmers. Taking a real case study of 2023 harvesting season, a sack of unprocessed rice of 100 kilograms were sold at 30,000/= Tanzania Shillings. In return the processed sack of rice of 100 kilograms were sold at 1200. This indicates that the farmer who process his/her produce were able to generate profit three times than a farmer who decided to sell without processing the rice. The project targets to process around 3000 tones from 500 Farmers around rural areas in Misungwi district Mwanza region. Despite of targeting the potential players in Rice production, the project will enhance the availability of good and quality rice in local and international markets.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

According to the Tanzania National Berue of Statistics (2012) Rice is a second most consumed grain in Tanzania. Also from the the statistics it shows that rice is the third most exported grain in Tanzania. According to Tanzania Cereals and other produces board (2023) rice quality is a great challenge to buyers. Lack of quality milling facility is reported to be among the reason of having poor quality. Poor quality led to a great challenge in accessing the markets. Thus this project intend to revamp the gap of having good quality rice from farmers
