Describe your project or startup in a few words
The project aims to design and distribute comprehensive AFYA BORA delivery packages for pregnant women in underserved areas with poor accessibility and high product costs. The packages contain essential medical supplies as well as educational materials.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
The project aims to create AFYA BORA delivery packages for pregnant women in areas with poor healthcare access and high medical costs. The goal is to tackle challenges of access, affordability, and quality of maternal healthcare. The packages will contain essential medical items which are used during child birth and are carefully chosen based on standard health guidelines and local provider input. To ensure package delivery, the project works with local groups, community health workers, and traditional birth attendants to distribute the packages directly in remote communities. Affordability is key - the project explores local production or bulk purchasing to reduce costs, and provides financial assistance like subsidies for low-income families. Alongside distribution, the project emphasizes training and engaging the local community, healthcare workers, birth attendants, and pregnant women learn to use the packages, spot dangers, access care as well as empowering the community.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
1. Access Barriers: Overcoming long distances, lack of transportation, and poor infrastructure to bring essential supplies closer to the target population through innovative distribution channels and community-based delivery. 2. Affordability Constraints: Addressing the high costs of healthcare products and services by exploring local procurement options, leveraging bulk purchasing power, and subsidizing the packages to make them more affordable. 3. Lack of Standardized Supplies: Curating a standardized package of high-quality, vetted supplies to ensure a safe and hygienic delivery experience. 4. Gaps in Knowledge and Skills: Incorporating comprehensive educational materials and hands-on training for pregnant women, their caregivers, and community-based healthcare providers. 5. Sustainability and Scalability Concerns: Securing reliable funding sources, fostering local ownership, and developing adaptable distribution models to ensure the long-term success of the project
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
1. Improved Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness: The packages provide essential supplies and educational materials to help pregnant women and their families better prepare for childbirth and recognize potential complications. 2. Increased Access to Essential Maternal Care: By leveraging community-based distribution, the packages ensure pregnant women in underserved areas can access necessary supplies and services. 3. Enhanced Affordability and Financial Protection: The cost-effective procurement and distribution of the packages helps alleviate the financial burden, making essential maternal care more accessible for those living in poverty. 4. Standardized and Quality-Assured Supplies: The packages contain a pre-selected set of high-quality, sterile, and medically-approved supplies, ensuring consistent and reliable essentials for safe and hygienic delivery. 5. Capacity Building and Empowerment of Communities through project's training and skills development.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
1. Rural and remote communities: Pregnant women in these areas face significant challenges in accessing healthcare due to limited infrastructure, poor transportation, and lack of facilities. 2. Low-income populations: Economically disadvantaged and socially marginalized women are disproportionately affected by the high costs of healthcare, preventing them from seeking adequate maternal care. 3. First-time or young mothers: Younger or first-time pregnant women, especially adolescents, lack the knowledge, resources, and support networks to navigate pregnancy and childbirth in resource-constrained settings. 4. Women with high-risk pregnancies: Pregnant women with pre-existing conditions or complications require specialized care and supplies to ensure safe delivery, but often face increased risks of adverse outcomes. 5. Community health workers: Empowering these frontline providers with knowledge, and resources to use can improve the reach and impact of the program.
