Describe your project or startup in a few words
The projects is based on waste recovery. The project is based on production of sustainable bio-briquettes and efficient cooking stove for cooking in Tanzania. The bio- briquettes will be made of wastes( coconut husks, sawdust and rice husks, potato peels)
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
We want to produce sustainable bio-briquettes and energy-efficient cookstoves (clean stoves). Bio-Briquettes: We will utilize readily available wastes( biomas) including coconut shells, sawdust, rice husks, and bagasse to produce bio-briquettes. This diverts agricultural waste from landfills and promotes waste management. We will employ susrainable binders derived from algae and cassava peels. Our bio- briquettes Ignite fast and have long burning time ? 3 hours) Energy-Efficient Cookstoves: • Insulated Chambers: The cookstoves will incorporate well-insulated chambers to trap heat and minimize heat loss, hence maximization of resources.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
About 90% of Tanzanian households, particularly in rural areas rely on unclean cooking solutions (firewoods, charcoal and traditional biomass cookstoves). These solutions present them with several challenges such as: i. Deforestation: According to the National Forestry Policy Implementation Strategy for 2021 - 2031, it is estimated that 469,420 hectares of forests are cut annually for human activities, including cutting trees for firewood and burning charcoal. ii. Indoor Air Polution: Smoke from the use of unclean cooking solutions contains toxic gases and small dust particles with toxic ingredients that can weaken the respiratory system and cause chronic diseases such as cough, pneumonia, tuberculosis, asthma and lung cancer. Also, these toxins cause pregnancy loss, premature delivery or giving birth to children with health problems. iii. Inefficiency: Traditional cooking solutions waste a large portion of fuel, leading to increased fuel collection time and higher costs for households
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
i. Sustainable Fuel: Bio-briquettes made from agricultural waste can replace traditional firewood and charcoal, reducing deforestation and promoting waste utilization. ii. Improved Health: Bio-briquettes produce less smoke hence protect the respiratoy organs of the users. iii. Fuel Efficiency: Efficient stoves require less fuel, saving households time and money spent on firewood collection and inefficient traditional charcoal. iv. Economic Empowerment: The production and sale of bio-briquettes can create new income opportunities, particularly for women and youth.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
The project is aimed at serving Tanzanians who rely on charcoal and firewood for cooking especially people from rural areas the women especially. Households: Our primary target market is Tanzanian households seeking a cleaner, more efficient cooking solution. Institutions: We will also cater to small food vendors, prisons, schools, and colleges that require reliable and cost-effective cooking solutions for larger volum

02.06.01 My project contributes to the Clean water and sanitation goal
6
02.06.02 Clean water and sanitation - Justification
Our projects contribute to sustaibable management of water and sanitation. Forests play a big role in the hydrological cycle, conservation of forests equates to conservation of water resources. We want to produce sustainable bio-briquettes to teplace charcoal as a heat source for cooking this will lead to decline of defforesration and hence water resource conseevation especially tje rivers.
02.07.01 My project contributes to the Affordable and clean energy goal
7 - Strongly Agree
02.07.02 Affordable and clean energy - Justification
Yes, Bio-briquettes from agricultural waste is a clean energy and it is affordable because it originates from wastes. We recycle wastes to energy. During the process of production we carbonize the raw materials to reduce the volatile matter and this cause them to be smokeless and hence it is clean energy and protects the health of thd users.
02.08.01 My project contributes to the Decent work and economic growth

7 - Strongly Agree
02.12.02 Responsible consumption and production - Justification
Not answered02.13.01 My project contributes to the Climate action goal
6
02.13.02 Climate action - Justification
Greenhouse gas emission is a primary causer of climatic change. The greenhouses gas are mostly produced through burning of fuel for energy prodiction. But also trees are the main consumers of carbondioxide for photosynthrsis. Production of bio-briquettes will eliminate cutting down of trees and enhence the use of clean energy from recycling of wastes. These organic wastes when left to decompose in open environment they methane which is also a greenhouse gas and contribute to climatic change. Due to that it is important to recycle then for environmental conservation. The project of bio-briquettes contributes significantly to climate action by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices. Bio-briquettes are produced from renewable biomass sources such as agricultural residues and organic waste, which reduces reliance on fossil fuels like coal and oil. By substituting these traditional fuels with bio-briquettes, the project helps decrease carbon dioxide
02.14.01 My project contributes to the Life below water goal
6
02.14.02 Life below water - Justification
Bio-briquettes production supports life below water by reducing the reliance on traditional charcoal and wood fuels, which are often linked to deforestation and soil erosion. These environmental impacts lead to increased sedimentation and runoff into water bodies, degrading aquatic habitats and harming marine life. By promoting sustainable bio-briquettes made from agricultural waste, we help protect forests and maintain healthier ecosystems. This, in turn, reduces sedimentation and pollution in rivers, lakes, and oceans, thereby preserving water quality and supporting the diverse life forms that depend on these aquatic environments.
02.15.01 My project contributes to the Life on land goal
6
02.15.02 Life on land - Justification
Bio-briquettes production supports life on land by promoting sustainable resource use and reducing deforestation. By utilizing agricultural waste and other organic materials as raw inputs, bio-briquettes offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional charcoal and wood fuels, which often contribute to forest depletion. This shift not only preserves natural habitats and biodiversity but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating climate change. Additionally, the production process can create economic opportunities for rural communities, fostering local development and improving livelihoods. Overall, bio-briquettes production plays a significant role in conserving terrestrial ecosystems and enhancing the well-being of people and wildlife.
