Golden Plastics empowers Cameroonian communities to recycle plastic waste into valuable products using locally-built machines, fostering a circular economy and addressing plastic pollution. Our mission is to transform waste management and create sustainab
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
Golden Plastics aims to revolutionize plastic waste management in Cameroon by creating a machine builder workspace in Douala. Inspired by the Precious Plastic movement, we provide high-quality, open-source recycling machines (shredder, injection, extruder, sheet press) that enable communities to convert plastic waste into valuable products such as beams, sheets, and shredded plastic. Our target groups include eco-conscious customers, builders, local manufacturers, and innovation hubs. We engage directly through industry events, personalized meetings, and partnerships with universities and hubs. Our online platform and social media presence enhance customer engagement. By empowering local communities, we create economic opportunities, promote responsible consumption, and significantly reduce plastic pollution, fostering a sustainable circular economy in Cameroon
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Golden Plastics addresses the critical issue of plastic pollution in Cameroon. The country faces significant challenges with plastic waste, resulting in environmental contamination and overflowing landfills due to inadequate recycling infrastructure. The linear consumption model exacerbates the problem, leading to wasted resources and detrimental effects on both the environment and public health. Our project aims to transform this scenario by providing communities with the tools and knowledge to recycle plastic waste into valuable products. By establishing a machine builder workspace in Douala and offering high-quality, open-source recycling machines, we empower local communities to actively participate in a circular economy. This approach not only reduces plastic pollution but also fosters economic opportunities, promotes sustainable practices, and encourages responsible consumption, ultimately creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment for future generations.

02.02.01 My project contributes to the Zero hunger goal
5
02.02.02 Zero hunger - Justification
While Golden Plastics primarily focuses on recycling plastic waste and promoting a circular economy, it indirectly contributes to the goal of "Zero Hunger." By creating economic opportunities and generating income for local communities, individuals have increased financial resources to purchase food and improve their overall food security. Additionally, the reduction in plastic pollution can lead to healthier environments, which can positively impact agriculture and food production. However, since the project's core activities are not directly related to food production or distribution, its impact on this goal is somewhat limited.
