01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Shamba Hub Limited is a Kenyan social enterprise on a mission to revolutionize livestock farming in Kenya. We achieve this by empowering smallholder farmers with knowledge and resources through our innovative mobile application, iFeed. This user-friendly app provides a powerful platform for farmers to access expert-backed feeding plans and management practices, ultimately leading to healthier herds, increased productivity, and improved livelihoods
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem Shamba Hub Limited is trying to solve is the limited knowledge and resources available to smallholder livestock farmers in Kenya. This lack of access to information and best practices leads to several issues for farmers, including: Traditional farming methods might not be optimized for animal health, leading to deficiencies and health problems in livestock. Poor nutrition and inadequate care can result in lower milk and meat yields, impacting farmer income. Reduced productivity and animal health issues can lead to financial insecurity for farmers and their families.

While agricultural apps and resources exist, Shamba Hub Limited offers a unique combination of features addressing a specific need for Kenyan smallholder farmers. Here's how our app is innovative: Unlike generic agricultural apps, our app personalizes recommendations based on individual animal data (breed, age, lactation stage) and user-provided information (local feed availability, budget). This goes beyond one-size-fits-all approaches. Many existing solutions cater to large-scale farms with different needs and resources. We prioritize the needs of Kenyan smallholder farmers with limited resources and diverse livestock types (goats, pigs, not just cattle). Understanding limited internet access in rural areas, our app allows users to access core functionalities like feeding plans even without an internet connection. This ensures accessibility even in areas with connectivity challenges. We go beyond basic information by offering data-driven insights to optimize animal health.
