Describe your project or startup in a few words

Maria Cafe & Butchery is a fast food place operating 24hours. Its located in a busy street near Total energies Busia branch. It started its operation on 20th December 2023 and its been doing well since then. It has created employment to 4 individuals.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

I am a form four leaver. Since 2017 i have been looking for a job. I was later employed in a kibandaski in 2018 where i was able to save and raise funds to educate my sister who sat for her exams in 2020. She later joined me after high school, we managed to save and came up with this dream. Raising capital and getting a space plus some of the necessities wasn't a walk in the park. We postponed this idea till 2023 where it came to life. We opened it in December, during the holidays and it picked up instantly. We have managed to acquire 2 chefs, 2 waitresses and a butcher person. Its a dream come true.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Changing economy. Everything is going up. Rent has been increased. Food prices has gone up . Working with employees who's interests does not allign with the objectives of Maria cafe and Butchery. Power. Increased rates and may be when there is long blackouts the meat get spoiled.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).

I have created job to another person and they are able to grow. It has given me a platform to interact with various people who give positive feedback. I can earn and save to go to school. I have interest in taking a hospitality course and my sister too. Both of us are high school leavers.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

Boda boda service providers. Most work till late hours and therefore are my frequent customers. Travellers. Mostly are those are travelling or alighting and those take aways as they continue with their journey. And the general public.

The other one is my sister, she finished high school in 2022 and still waiting to join so she is here to assist as this is our full time job.

We continuously buy foods from the market hence helping those in the market who acquire those primarily from farmers hence improving the living standards of farmers and all stakeholders involved in the produce. Maria cafe and butchery has employed 4 people thus 4 families have been relying in this to the betterment of their families welfare. This is a way of eradicating poverty in our country.

The butcher is clean as required by the law. The meats are upto standard. The food is well prepared up to standard. All employees own certificate clearance from food and poisons board. The cafe is clean.

My main potential competitors are the nearby fast food vendors. My space has fresh and delicious me dily available. This has enabled me keep my customers and increase even more because of the feedback from visiting customers.
