Agribusiness is a Talent where if well utilised, can earn one a life changing fortune

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

As a vegetable farmer who ventured into small scale farming post-corona, i have identified an opportunity in it. I fast tried my luck in maize farming in a 1-acre pieace of land in the interiors of Makueni County with a zero (0) profits. I then decided to go for fresh vegetable farming mainly focused on green capsicum but with a mixture of sukuma wiki (kales). In two seasons, the demand increased vigorously whereby i was forced to hire another 2 -acres to be able to sustain the market demand. Currently i have 1 acre mature maize on my farm and another acre of green capsicum ready for harvesting.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

In this venture,its evident solution to hunger can be permanently eliminated as well as one earns a living in return

In farming, the opportunity to eradicate hunger as well as maintenance of food security by directly accessing fresh from the farm products.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

The consumer(customer) is the first beneficiary by making sure i produce enough to cater for food scarcity,keenly observing fresh produce which is free from any contamination where in exchange i get a few coins to sustain my living.

My co-partner started his farming career earlier than me and his vast knowledge encouraged me into partnering for better corporation since i wished to learn more from his skills. His main role is to manage by tilling,sowing,watering, pests controlling as well as organising harvesting periods as i corporate mainly in providing funds for the project management.

In my day to day practices in the farm i have learnt periodically with the management of the farm. One is able to determine highs and lows as in any other businesses. Skills improves gradually until the business gets bigger. Like wise, the little pennies obtained from the selling of my farm produce makes it possible for my kids to go to school and increase their knowledge.

With my little knowledge, i have invested on use of gas cylinders connected to its own carburator to eradicate air pollution emanating from lpg materials. This is a recent innovation that has also help me cut short production losses as the cost of fuel e.g petrol, diesel is higher than gas

Big wigs invented the agribusiness by blocking all products from directly reaching to the consumer. This has led to small profit margins and effecting the project. I envision to become a direct supplier to the consumers without having to go through a third party to get to market. With the direct connection to the consumer the venture will positively impact me as the farmer as well as the customer satisfaction solution.

11.05 Are you initiating actions within your community to promote the role of female entrepreneurs?

Yes, as they say,charity begins at home. I have categorically challenged my wife by trying to invest in poultry rearing for her. My intention is to help her learn entrepreneurial skill with a vision that she gives back to the community by instilling her the skills to other women as well as offering with my support as well financial support to new entrepreneurs.
