Describe your project or startup in a few words

I have ventured into agribusiness where I grow food products such as onions, tomatoes, capsicum, sugarcane and Maize. I also rear chicken and sell them at a local market and I've also strived to do marketing hence attracting customers from far.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

I basically major in Onions, tomatoes and chicken and the main reason behind the project is to enhance sustainability and address the food security problem. I have employed three people on a monthly basis who assist me I'd doing the roles in the farm. I have also bought equipments and tools so as to enhance efficiency at work. We apply pesticides regularly and fertilizers to enable good production. I have been in the been in the business for one year and am always getting to learn more everytime I plant. I always do benchmarking in other farms of successful individuals who started way earlier. I always strive to ensure that I produce quality food products.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Then main challenge I face is inadequate financial strength. Sometimes newer pests attack the crops rendering me to redraw the pre-existing budget and sometimes the money for the extra budget isn't readily available. Another financial challenge is the high cost of living which makes me pay the casual labourers more so as to meet the current casual labour renumeration rates. Climatic conditions is another great challenge, sometimes it rains a lot hence the crops get fungal related diseases such as wilt, downy mildew and purple blotch. Another problem is theft of farm produce. I currently lack the finances to employ a security guard.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).

The main benefit is addressing the challenge of food insecurity. Onions and Tomatoes are required in each and every household and therefore I make it readily available for the households around. I always sell the produce at the farm gate price hence lowering the transportation cost Incase the consumers had to buy them from far.

Currently I serve the local market but I aspire to make it big and serve several counties within the province and beyond.
