Describe your project or startup in a few words

I have successfully built a pen with the capacity to house three cows and have currently managed to purchase one cow. My vision is to expand this project to house at least 6 pedigree cows. Additionally, I aim to install a biogas system for clean energy.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

I reside in a semi-urban area where agribusiness can play a crucial role in enhancing livelihoods and promoting sustainable development. I have noted that most of the residents are biding residential properties for rent, which creates a significant food security challenge as the population grows. My dairy farming aims at playing part in providing milk and using the manure after producing biogas to support my small scale farming where I have a small greenhouse (8x18 meters). This strategy will help me to grow vegetables and promote the supply within my area to mitigate the current scarcity. I have space that can accommodate 6 cows and with financial support I will manage to achieve my target. Currently I have one inculf heifer expected to give birth in August.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

The project will help solve the issue of availability of fresh milk especially for toddlers and individuals with health related issues since my area has a challenge of finding unprocessed milk.

Job Creation: The expansion of my dairy farm will create employment opportunities for local residents, including roles in animal husbandry, milking, and farm management. This will help reduce unemployment rates and improve the standard of living in my community. Local Supply Chain: By increasing the number of pedigree cows, I will be able to produce more milk and dairy products, supplying local markets and reducing dependency on imported dairy products. This will strengthen the local economy and promote self-sufficiency. Environmental Sustainability: Biogas Production: The installation of a biogas system will allow for the conversion of cow manure into biogas, providing a renewable source of energy for cooking and heating. The residual slurry from the biogas system can be used as a high-quality organic fertilizer for my crops, promoting sustainable farming practices and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
