The Adison Dairy - Bale up
Describe your project or startup in a few words
The Adison Dairy bale up is a project that provides baling services of silage to small farmers both Dairy and beef. The project has a portable baler machine, forage chopper and qualified personnel who inspect farmers fodder and advise them accordingly
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
The Adison dairy bale up provides baling services of forage into silage . The bales are of standard weight of 50kgs therefore well suited to small scale dairy and beef farmers in the country. These farmers are the most vulnerable during drought or prolonged dry seasons. During this period they either have forage of poor quality or none at all. This leads to low production of milk and emaciation of beef cattle or even death of their herd hence huge losses. The baled silage ensures forages are preserved during the rainy season when its plenty and be utilized later. As a way of promoting profit maximisation on the farm we encourage these farmers to grow their protein concentrate on their farm, that is, sunflower crop. In the process of extruding this sunflower cake, there is a product oil. This oil is converted into biodiesel which is used to run our chopping and baling machine, hence using green energy
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Consistency in cattle production both dairy and beef farming for small scale farmers . When farmers use our baling services they're assured of quality fodder throughout the year even during the dry season or during drought
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
When a farmer uses our baling services they are assured of zero spoilage of their fodder and they can use it later when there is no pasture . Our bales are of standard size, 50kgs, therefore ideal for small scale dairy and beef farmers who cannot afford expensive machinery on their farm Since our bales are well wrapped, farmers are assured of zero nutritional loss here their animal performance is optimal
01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
our targeted beneficiaries are small scale dairy and beef farmers. They usually have excess forage during the wet season and of poor quality or none during the dry period. These farmers do not own machinery and do not have the knowledge on how to convert fodder into silage
01.05 When was your company established?

02.01.01 My startup contributes to the No poverty goal
5
02.01.02 No poverty - Justification for my startup
Small cattle farmers incur huge losses when its dry or during drought. These farmers depend on these cattle for their livelihood. when their available for through out the year, there are stable income earning hence increasing their disposable income and reducing poverty
02.02.01 My startup contributes to the Zero hunger goal
5
02.02.02 Zero hunger - Justification for my startup
By baling silage to farmers it ensures consistency in production of milk. Therefore even at a family level they can be able to consume milk or meat and combat hunger
02.03.01 My startup contributes to the Good health and well-being goal
5
02.03.02 Good health and well-being - Justification for my startup
Milk is known for nutrients mainly calcium which promotes healthy bones, by providing farmers with feeds for their cows, we indirectly induce production of milk
02.04.01 My startup contributes to the Quality education goal
2
02.04.02 Quality education - Justification for my startup

Our machinery runs on biodiesel. Which is a renewable energy source . This promotes green energy use
02.08.01 My startup contributes to the Decent work and economic growth
5
02.08.02 Decent work and economic growth - Justification for my startup
By baling quality forages to farmers , they are able to sell their produce especially when its dry at a higher price because production is less than demand therefore enhancing economic growth
02.09.01 My startup contributes to the Industry innovation and infrastructure
6
02.09.02 Industry innovation and infrastructure - Justification for my startup
Making biodiesel from byproduct oil . This makes our energy cost cheaper which we pass on to the consumer, therefore we are able to price our baling services competitively while caring for the environment

By use of biodiesel on our machines. This is a source of energy that's renewable and infinite, can be generated again and again as opposed to petroleum diesel which is prone to depletion
02.13.01 My startup contributes to the Climate action goal
6
02.13.02 Climate action - Justification for my startup
By baling silage for farmers which they use at a later date, this helps to combat severe causes of climate change such as death of cattle due to lack of pasture or reduced milk production during the dry season Biodiesel use on our machinery reduces carbon emissions as opposed to using petroleum diesel

06.08 Justification for my startup
Our baled silage is portable because it weighs 50kgs as opposed to bunker silage which are expensive to construct and are designed for large-scale farmers. Our baled silage can be done anywhere, on the farm or where the forage is
06.09 Competitive Analysis
Large-scale silage contractors who own expensive machinery and their output is large silage bales weighing 900kgs . Our competitive advantage is the size of our silage bales, small bales weighing 50kgs therefore designed for small-scale farmers whom are many in the country
11.05 Are you initiating actions within your community to promote the role of female entrepreneurs?
By providing baling services to women farmers we are indirectly promoting women businesses
