01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Agrivolve pioneers sustainable agriculture in urban landscapes. Through agroponics, a fusion of aquaculture and hydroponics, and vertical farming, we redefine conventional farming paradigms. Our greenhouses utilize minimal land, maximizing yield per square foot. Advanced hydroponic systems nourish crops with precisely balanced nutrient solutions, conserving water while eliminating soil dependence. In our aquaponics setups, fish waste fertilizes plants, creating a symbiotic ecosystem where produce flourishes alongside aquatic life. This closed-loop system minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency. Agrivolve leverages cutting-edge technology to monitor and optimize environmental conditions, ensuring optimal growth year-round. Automated systems regulate lighting, temperature, and humidity, fostering ideal growing conditions without reliance on unpredictable weather patterns.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Kenya has recently been a victim of erratic weather patterns experiencing one of the most devastating El Nino's with an estimated damage of about Ksh16.26 billion and widespread crop destruction over 84,568 acres, leading to a disruption of farmers livelihood. The dynamics of poverty within Kenya are changing and directly influence the country's agricultural sector. 36.5% of the population are food insecure and 35% of children under five have stunted growth due to malnourishment. With the population increasing by 2.2% annually, arable land have are decreasing in size, affecting the national food production. Due to the poverty levels farmers are farmers are in no position to afford good quality fertilizer hence leading to the use of synthetic fertilizer that has led to: Nutrient Imbalance, Soil Acidification, Soil Erosion, Water Pollution, Loss of Soil Biodiversity, Soil Compaction. This automatically leads to lower inputs and is evident in the annual 1.9 per cent drop of national yield

Maximized Yield in Minimal Space: Our hydroponics and vertical farming techniques allow for efficient land use, maximizing yield per square foot. By growing vertically and in controlled environments, we can produce a larger quantity of crops compared to traditional methods, addressing the growing demand for food in urban areas without expanding horizontally. Resource Efficiency and Sustainability: Through hydroponics and aquaponics, we minimize water usage compared to traditional farming while eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers. This sustainable approach reduces environmental impact, conserves water resources, and decreases reliance on harmful agricultural practices, contributing to a more eco-friendly food production system. Year-Round Production and Crop Diversity: Our advanced technology enables us to control environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light, allowing for year-round production regardless of external weather conditions.

Agrivolve is aimed at serving urban communities, local markets, and farmers. Our targeted beneficiaries include: 1. Urban Dwellers: Residents of densely populated areas lacking access to fresh, locally grown produce benefit from our proximity-based farming. We bring agriculture closer to consumers, reducing transportation emissions and promoting food security in urban food deserts. 2. Local Markets and Restaurants: Our high-quality, sustainably grown produce caters to the needs of local markets, grocery stores, and restaurants seeking fresh, flavorful ingredients. By sourcing from us, they support local agriculture, reduce their carbon footprint, and offer customers healthier, tastier options. 3. Farmers: Agrivolve supports both small and large scale farmers by offering training, technology, and partnerships to transition to Hydroponics and vertical farming, enhancing their sustainability and profitability.

My background is in engineering and manufacturing. I am an innovator and I have been recognized locally and internationally for my innovations in clean energy, waste management, construction, Electric mobility and agricultural value addition. With more than 7 years' experience in systems development and project management I believe I'm best positioned to solve this problem that I'm deeply passionate about.
