Describe your project or startup in a few words
we adds value of milk into yoghurt, cheese, ice cream, chocolate and ghee, at farm through our innovation that uses locally fabricated solar and biogas powered processing channels, reducing green house gas emissions by 70% and cost of production by 60%
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
our project is named king daughters project, we focus no milk value addition through climate smart technology, we process milk into nine value added products namely yoghurt, cheese, cultured milk, ice cream, ghee, chocolate, milk powder, cultured cream and butter , this increases shelf life of milk from 24 hours to 30 days enabling small holder farmers to avoid post harvest loses. the value of the products also increases ten times the farm gate price. we process the milk using innovated machinery that uses solar power, bio gas and other farm waste as fuel.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
we are trying to reduce post harvest loses uncured by farmers due to unreliable milk market for small holder dairy farmers. we also aim to solve the issue of climate change by reducing green house gas emissions. The idea to start and run the business arose after extensive research carried by members who are university students who identified a gap between the supply and demand of dairy products in Narok County, small holder farmers used to lose up to 40% of their milk produce due to spoilage and wastage as well as over exploitation from milk middle men who purchased the milk at half the market price, we also identified a gap in capacity building on milk value addition, we innovated machinery that process the milk into yoghurt, ice cream, ghee, butter, chocolate, mala. milk powder. we use solar energy, bio gas and other farm waste as fuel solving the problems affecting small holder dairy farmers. at the same time we help conserve the environment by reducing green house gas emission.
