Tala Mango Fruit project aims at utilizing mangoes to their maximum capacity during high season, by value addition, which is specifically achieved by sun or preferably oven drying the mango juice/puree to enhance its taste and longevity/ shelf life.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

Our country Kenya experiences different seasons depending on the location. After the short and long rains, many parts of the country will harvest mangoes in abundance beyond the market demand. Most of the mangoes therefore go to waste due to lack of proper storage facilities/ technology such as cold storage or fruit irradiation. Tala Mango Fruit project involves processing a mango fruit and repackaging it into packets for storage and value addition purposes. This is achieved by drying the mango puree/ juice either naturally in the sun or in the oven to achieve a desired texture. Adding spices and approved food colour can also be done achieve a desired taste and finally packaging the final product into different sizes for sale as final product. This final mango product can then be stored for about 3 years.

Reducing mango wastes that occurs during high seasons incurred from rotting of mango fruits. Enhancing mango shelf life by up to 3 years in storage. Creating more market for mango farmers during high season. Job creation/ poverty reduction.g

Creates market for mango farmers. Reduces environmental pollution created by wastes from lack of market. Drying process retains the necessary nutrients and fibre therefore retains it health benefits.

Dried mangoes already exist. However, blended dry mango is a totally new idea. It comes with a whole new taste ,texture and flavour.
